Gene W. Hill Jr. is a husband, father, municipal public servant, labor leader, and candidate for Bordentown Township Committee.
Gene’s path to public service did not begin in politics. It began in the workforce.
For approximately eight years, Gene has worked in municipal government as an Equipment Operator, giving him firsthand experience with public works, infrastructure, and many of the essential services residents depend on every day. That experience has allowed him to see local government from a perspective few elected officials have, as someone responsible for helping deliver the services taxpayers fund.
Gene believes that practical experience matters. Government decisions are not just numbers on a spreadsheet or votes taken at a meeting. They affect neighborhoods, employees, families, businesses, public safety, municipal services, and the taxpayers who ultimately pay the bill.
Standing Up for Working People
Gene serves as President of AFSCME Local 2475, where he represents municipal employees and works on issues involving workplace conditions, employee rights, government accountability, and the delivery of public services.
Serving as union president has required Gene to listen to people with different concerns, communicate with management and government officials, negotiate, solve problems, and stand his ground when necessary.
The experience has reinforced one of Gene’s core beliefs about leadership, people deserve representatives who are accessible, willing to listen, and prepared to speak up when something is not right.
Gene also participates in the AFSCME New Jersey PAC, giving him additional experience with issues affecting working people and public employees throughout New Jersey.
Elected to Represent Municipal Public Employees Statewide
Gene’s commitment to public employees led him to seek statewide office on the New Jersey Public Employees’ Retirement System Board of Trustees.
He was elected as the Municipal Representative on the NJ PERS Board of Trustees, giving municipal public employees a voice in one of New Jersey’s major public retirement systems.
The position carries an important responsibility, representing the interests of municipal employees while helping oversee issues involving retirement security and the responsible stewardship of the pension system.
For Gene, earning the trust of public employees to represent them at the state level reinforced something he has learned throughout his career, leadership is earned by showing up, doing the work, listening to people, and being willing to represent them when it matters.
A Working-Class Perspective
Gene is not a career politician.
He understands what it means to work for a paycheck, raise a family, pay taxes, and expect government to use those tax dollars responsibly.
His background has shaped the way he approaches public service. Gene believes elected officials should ask questions before spending public money, communicate openly with residents, support the employees and services that keep communities functioning, and remember who government ultimately works for.
That working-class perspective is at the center of his campaign for Bordentown Township Committee.
Husband, Father, Neighbor
Above every title Gene holds, he is a husband and father.
Like other families throughout Bordentown Township, Gene cares about safe neighborhoods, strong public services, responsible taxes, good infrastructure, and maintaining the quality of life that makes the Township a place people are proud to call home.
Being a parent also gives Gene a long-term perspective on local government. Decisions made today will help determine what kind of community the next generation inherits.
Gene wants Bordentown Township to remain a community where families can put down roots, children can grow up safely, businesses can succeed, and residents know their local government is working for them.
Why Township Committee?
Gene decided to run for Township Committee because he believes Bordentown Township residents deserve a strong, independent voice in local government.
He wants to bring his experience from municipal government, labor leadership, and statewide public service directly to the Township Committee.
Gene will approach the position the same way he has approached every leadership responsibility he has been entrusted with, listen first, ask questions, do the homework, stand up for people, and make decisions based on what is best for the residents and taxpayers he represents.
His priorities include:
Responsible spending and taxpayer accountability
Open and transparent government
Strong police, fire, emergency services, public works, and essential municipal services
Responsible development that considers infrastructure, traffic, public safety, and taxpayers
Protecting Bordentown Township’s quality of life
Making local government more accessible to residents
